“We might even Find, at the end our journey, that the perspective we’ve found in flight means something more to us than all the dust-mote miles we’ve ever gone.”
— Richard Bach, ‘A Gift of Wings’.

This is our project.
N9088 is a Travel Air E-4000 with a rich history. It was built in March of 1929 by the Travel Air Company in Wichita Kansas. It has lived most of its life in the Wisconsin/Illinois region, and has served as a pleasure plane, racer, cropduster, barnstormer, and movie plane. It has attended a few Oshkosh airshows, and according to the previous owners’ written account, was towed down State Street in the city of Chicago and parked in front of the Tribune building for a Delta Airlines display. Notably, it was once owned by renowned author Richard Bach. The airplane was restored in 90 days for him in preparation for the film 'Nothing By Chance' in the early 1970’s. It’s history prior to Bach’s acquisition is intermittent. We do know that after he sold it to a local gentleman near Rio, it flew until the 80’s. It then sat for over forty years, passing hands as a project once more until we discovered it in Brodhead Wisconsin.
We are still learning more about the airplane as we begin restoration efforts in Texas. We can’t wait to embark on this journey with you!
